Our Prediction:

Man City will win

Man City – Southampton Match Prediction | 03-11-2019 11:00

This match's outcome could well come down to which side fancies the competition more. Expert Verdict: Priorities are a very big part of life, and just like that, they are also huge in the world of football. Quite honestly, neither side are likely to be particularly fond of going deep, but City have the propensity to continually do so it seems. They also have got the much better side, so that will propel them to a relatively simple win over a hurting Saints side.

We want to stay involved in this cup for as long as possible and we will perform as well as we can against Southampton and that is our target. Its up to the manager to choose 11 fit and ready players and then its all about us all doing our jobs. Its all about staying in a rhythm and obviously, we dont want to go out of this competition.

Against Manchester City that is by no means impossible, especially with The Citizens looking to end their record breaking and title winning season with a bang. It would also see them win a record breaking 32 games in a Premier League season and also break the record for most number of away wins and points in a single season. A win here would make them the first team in English top flight history to hit the 100 point barrier.

League Table

The Citizens aim to melt Liverpools advantage in the Premier League standings, and they are likely to go all guns blazing against the Saints. Manchester City will be looking to build on back-to-back wins over Crystal Palace and Aston Villa when they host Southampton at their Etihad Stadium on Matchday 11. Pep Guardiola is likely to stick to his rotation policy against Southampton, and we predict that his men are going to pick up all three points from Saturdays football match.

Not only this, but they still have the best defensive record in the top flight. Even so, were not expecting a clean sheet for Manchester City on Sunday. Away from home they have conceded in five of their last seven league matches, and for all of Southamptons failures they have still found the net in ten of their last 12 competitive home games.

Pep Guardiolas side remain six points behind Liverpool so will be focused on not allowing a slip-up against the south-coast club that would represent a major shock. Southampton may not relish a second trip to the Etihad Stadium in five days while Manchester City will not be daunted by facing a team they beat 3-1 on Tuesday in the EFL Cup and who were defeated 9-0 in their last league outing.

He has flourished as well, with the 21 year old Brazilian netting in four of their last six competitive games and in each of his last three league away days. Much was made of how Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus would fit into the squad at the start of the season, but an injury to top scorer Aguero has left the door open for Jesus to take the number nine role. Were backing him to find the net here for our anytime goalscorer predictions.

Cards & Corners

The Saints experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a heavy 9-0 loss to Leicester City, and seeing that Ryan Bertrand misses the Man City game through suspension, home win should be considered. A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Raheem Sterling, who scored his seventh goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

With an even stronger team available than the one that comfortably handled Southampton in midweek, if they can keep their focus, there is no reason to believe that the Blues will not deliver on expectations. The Citizens will once again be heavy favorites to put a big number past their opposition from the South Coast, and once again the key will be to avoid complacency.

Sergio Aguero didnt get the nod on Saturday to start against Aston Villa, so that means there will be plenty of gas in the tank for him here. The Algerian is also going to be very well rested here, and that should allow him to help Aguero terrorize a Southampton defence low on confidence currently. Even if some of the other names in the team are lesser known, you know he will give you at least a 7/10 showing, such is his level of skill and class. Alongside him, hell have Riyad Mahrez to carry the load.

The points they have dropped in the initial stages of the campaign have them trailing by six behind the Reds, and one more game where the defending champions failed to post three points on the board is unthinkable for fans. The Manchester outfit will have to keep up with their antics, and knowing Peps style, another goal-rout is really on the cards.

But others will argue that rotating and playing for the weekend, in the league where they could ultimately be relegated, is the better choice. Some will contend that they need to make a response straight away by playing a full side to try and compete and right the ship a bit. Which one is going to be tough, but there is no doubt that they need something to turn around quickly if Hasenhuttl is to stay and they are to prosper as they did a number of seasons back now. Southampton, meanwhile, have a very big choice to make.
