Maryland (@1.12) vs Rutgers (@6.0)

Our Prediction:

Maryland will win

Maryland – Rutgers Match Prediction | 05-10-2019 12:00

Maryland, on the other hand, has lost 3 of 4 and continues to struggle on the defensive side, giving up the most points in the Big Ten (37.0/game) up to this point. Pete Winter: I dont think its an overstatement to say this is the most important game in the Chris Ash era so far. Rutgers has won 2 out of the last 3 in Big Ten play and appears to be building positive momentum for the future. A Rutgers win would move them to 3-3 in the Big Ten, which is a milestone that nobody was expecting them to hit. It would also mean that the Scarlet Knights would likely not finish in last place of the Big Ten East division again.

The loss dropped Rutgers to 3-5 on the season. The Scarlet Knights had a brief two-game winning streak, but couldnt keep it going last week against Michigan, losing 35-14. With both Penn State and Michigan State left on their schedule, the Scarlet Knights cant afford to lose to Maryland at home. They now have to win three of their last four games if they hope to get to their first bowl game since 2014.

Furthermore, while Rutgers has played some tight games lately, the fact is that Maryland is the better team here and in recent meetings, it hasnt been that close. Unless theres something that Im missing, Im not sure why the line is this low for this game. Ill side with Maryland here as I think this low line is a gift and its one that Ill gladly accept. Maryland has done really well ATS on the road this season, as a matter of fact you could argue that away from home, Maryland has played some of their best basketball. Maryland is 6-0 SU against Rutgers since 2015, with the last 5 wins coming by double digits.

Iowa vs. Iowa State Prediction, Preview, and Odds - 9-14-2019

So, Rutgers 22 Maryland 12. I know Im perseverating here, but I go back to the players only meeting during the bye week. And Im going to play the optimist. Bob Cancro: I think we have this in hand early, winning at last six bouts plus some bonus points. I think being at home, the blackout (assuming people are in the stands wearing black), and this being an important game - for both teams - gives somebody an edge. Oh, wait, you wanted the football prediction! If we have so many issues, how have we won even three games? I agree that there are a lot of unmeasurable things. Something you can lock onto and use to make a solid judgment. Theres an old saying in football that the difference between winning and losing is razor thin. Jim Hoffman above talked about measurables. It was reported that it was a serious meeting and players unloaded things that were on their chests. If Durkin is doing so well, why isnt he winning more? Little things that you may not even be able to see - or measure - push you to one side or the other. And since that time, the team has been, well, better.

This one feels like a tipping point. Oh, and the meat of Rutgers' Big Ten schedule is still coming. Kansas was bad, Buffalo was bad, Illinois was bad, but this one, against a regional rival, feels like the one that will lead to everyone throwing their hands up. If this game goes exceptionally poorly, as those aforementioned ones did, it is going to feel like Doomsday.

All in all, Iowas defense will have their fingerprints all over this game. This should be yet another tough matchup for both of these in-state rivals, but what will be the difference is Iowas stingy defense. The Hawkeyes defense was a tremendous factor last time around giving up just three points and look to be a similar roll this year, which will make it hard for Purdy to lead the Cyclones to put up points on the board.

The Big Ten series record stands at 2-1 in favor of Maryland. The Scarlet Knights are looking to defend the home turf and make it 3 wins in four conference outings. Mike Voza: The Maryland Terrapins make the 3 hour ride north to the Banks this week searching for back to back Big Ten victories. This is the natural rival game that should be taking place on Thanksgiving weekend each year but a Wrestling / Football Double Header is what college athletics has the potential to be, and too many, much better than professional sports.

Matchup Menu: JAC @ HOU

These are not eye-popping numbers by any means from Purdy, but he did bring them stability and was a huge factor in helping them put together a strong finish to the 2018 campaign. It saw sophomore running back Johnnie Lang lead the charge on the ground with 60 yards on 14 carries in the contest. If the Cyclones hope to capture the Cy-Hawk trophy, they will need their offense to pick up as that will prove to be the difference in the contest. This will need the Cyclones running game to crack more than the 68 rushing yards that the Hawkeyes are allowing per game this season. It will be a tough challenge as Iowas defense has steamrolled through their opponents in the first two games while last seasons meeting was dictated by their defense holding Iowa State to just a field goal in that contest. Although he didnt get the start against the Hawkeyes last year, he will need to be big factor on the field. Their running game had a strong performance in the season opener notching 185 yards on 45 carries with a touchdown.

The win broke a three-game losing streak and got the Terps to 4-4 on the season. It also makes this weeks trip to Rutgers a must-win game. Maryland overcame a 4th quarter deficit last week to beat Indiana 42-39. Things are nearly as bleak for the Terrapins. Theyll need to upset at least one of those teams to ensure a bowl game. However, Maryland still has to play Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State.

No, it won't have any discernible impact on this gridiron clash. Maybe they'll surprise you. So I guess you the embattled Rutgers fan can give the Scarlet Knights one more shot before moving on to other weekend activities this fall. I mean, I don't think so, but yeah, maybe... The only prediction that matters for Saturday is that there's rain in the forecast for the morning. But it is going to leave your New Jersey pumpkin patches and hayrides a little soggy.

Thats not great, but its respectable. I dont think the Scarlet Knights are anything special on defense. If nothing else, it makes me think they can have success against a weak offensive team like Maryland. But if you take away their game against Ohio State, theyre giving up about 25 points per game against Big Ten teams.
