Our Prediction:

Arsenal will win

Watford – Arsenal Match Prediction | 16-09-2019 11:30

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette will be sidelined until October with an ankle injury. The 28-year-old had been playing through the pain, but has now been told to rest the problem. Rob Holding (knee) is closing in on a return but the game could come too soon, while Hector Bellerin (knee) and Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin) are further away as they step up their recovery. Nicolas Pepe is fit to play but fellow summer recruit Kieran Tierney (groin) is still not yet ready to make his debut.

This being the first game between these two teams in this season I had to focus on some other factors when crafting my selection. I focused on each teams form and recent results. They have more quality and talent than Watford. The safest bet in this game will be on Arsenal to win, that is my opinion after evaluating all the factors. Arsenal is a heavy favorite in this game.

That was not a start they have wished for. Historically they do not have trouble defeating them. Arsenal won the last 3 fixtures against Watford. Watford had some chances in that game, but it finished goalless for them. Watford will try to surprise here and somehow avoid fourth defeat early in the season. They have 7 points from the 4 games they played in the Premier League with a 6:6 goal difference. They will need a lot from Aubameyang in this game in order for them to win the vital 3 points. They are scoring and conceding in every game they play. Arsenal is in a solid form this season. Maybe they can answer in this game like they did a few times last year. They were stunned, with a 3:0 home loss to Brighton and have not recovered since.

The Hornets have not managed to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League since a 1-0 success against Everton in February. Whilst Sanchez Flores was a somewhat surprise choice to take the reins at Vicarage Road, if his first spell is anything to go by, Watford should be safe this season. In his solitary year in charge, the now 54-year-old masterminded a 13th place finish in the league in what was their highest finish in the top flight since 1987. One aspect that he will have to improve though is their defending.

As a result, they now sit bottom of league with only one point out of their opening four matches having only managed to find the net twice. On the face of things, it was extremely surprising to see Gracia depart Watford considering that only a few months ago, he had led them to an FA Cup final, albeit having been hammered by winners Manchester City at Wembley Stadium. However, the form table, and indeed the Premier League table, is not pretty reading for the Hornets. The team have only won two out of their last 13 games in Premier League action, with their 1-1 draw against Newcastle United last time out arresting a run of six consecutive losses.

New Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores will want to put down a marker in his first game back at Vicarage Road and there could well be a much improved Watford performance. The team will hopefully take inspiration from the Spaniards historical record against Unai Emery. Nonetheless, it will be tough against an Arsenal side aiming to get back to winning ways with plenty of attacking players able to hurt the hosts. Arsenal should collect the three points in Hertfordshire.
